Tasting Note
The 2015 Château Haut Simard, from the ten-hectare block in front of Canon-la-Gaffelière planted at 12,000 vines per hectare, is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. That represents a higher proportion of the latter because of the sheer quality (for example, the 2014 included around 25%). It has a precocious bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry aromas, almost confit-like, well defined and gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is very smooth and harmonious, the 30% new oak neatly embroidered with an edgy, citrus fresh finish that displays fine tension and depth. This is a great Haut-Simard that will offer up to 20 years of drinking pleasure. Drink: 2020-2045 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate
